Our Founder

Erin Haugen, PhD, LP, CMPC, is a licensed clinical psychologist (North Dakota #402 & Minnesota #LP6555) and sport psychologist in Grand Forks, ND, and works with athletes, teams, and organizations throughout the United States. She is passionate about psychological aspects of performance, mental health in high-performing industries, interprofessional practice, ethical decision-making, and workplace well-being. Her enthusiastic, approachable, and practical style captivate her audiences.

Dr. Haugen has a PhD in Clinical Psychology and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at River Valley Services/Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, CT and post-doctoral residency at the University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA. 

Dr. Haugen is a nationally sought-after speaker in athletic training and sport and performance psychology. She presents regularly at the annual meetings of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), American Psychological Association (APA), and the Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association (CCSPA). She was awarded the prestigious NATA Jack Weakley Award of Distinction in 2023 for her lifetime contributions to athletics, athletic training, and sports medicine. She has also developed several research-backed programs to help collegiate student-athletes deal with sport injury and transition into retirement from sport.

Dr. Haugen is an expert in working with elite athletes (collegiate, Olympic, professional) within over 20 different sports and specializes in collision sports (namely football and ice hockey). She has considerable experience working with athletic departments, student-athletes, coaches, sports medicine professionals, and staff at the collegiate level. She provides a limited amount of direct individual services (performance & clinical), as most of her time is spent working with teams, organizations, businesses, and corporations.

Dr. Haugen is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of North Dakota and a former faculty member (2016-2020) at Altru Family Medicine Residency. She provides mental health and performance psychology training to sports medicine fellows in physical therapy, athletic training students, and licensed mental health professionals working with athletes. She is a former member (2017-2019) and past-president (2018-2019) of the North Dakota State Board of Psychologist Examiners (NDSBPE).

In her spare time, Dr. Haugen is a competitive cyclist and enjoys relaxing with her husband, Dave, who specializes in couples & relationship therapy, and herding mix rescue dogs: Bella and Wilson.
