Our Founder

Erin Haugen, PhD, LP, CMPC, is a licensed clinical psychologist (North Dakota #402 & Minnesota #LP6555) and sport psychologist in Grand Forks, ND. She is passionate about psychological aspects of performance, athlete mental health, interprofessional practice, ethical practice, and professional well-being. Her enthusiastic, approachable, and practical style is an asset when helping others.

Dr. Haugen has a PhD in clinical psychology and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant ® (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at River Valley Services/Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, CT and post-doctoral residency at the University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA. 

Dr. Haugen is a nationally sought-after speaker in athletic training and sport psychology. She presents regularly at the annual meetings of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), American Psychological Association (APA), and the invitation-only Big Sky Sport Psychology Conference. Dr. Haugen was also awarded the prestigious Jack Weakley Award of Distinction in 2023 for her lifetime contributions to athletics, athletic training, and sports medicine.

Dr. Haugen works with elite athletes (collegiate, Olympic, professional) from over 20 different sports and specializes in working with athletic departments, student-athletes, coaches, sports medicine professionals, and staff at the collegiate level (NCAA Division I, II, & III; NAIA; NJCAA). She provides direct individual services (performance & clinical) at Assessment and Therapy Associates of Grand Forks (ATAGF), PLLC.

Dr. Haugen is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of North Dakota where she is responsible for providing training to PhD students in psychological assessment and sport psychology. She is a former faculty member (2016-2020) at Altru Family Medicine Residency. She continues to provide mental health and performance psychology training to sports medicine fellows (family medicine & physical therapy), athletic training students, and licensed mental health professionals working with athletes. She is a former member (2017-2019) and past-president (2018-2019) of the North Dakota State Board of Psychologist Examiners (NDSBPE).

In her spare time, Dr. Haugen competes in triathlons and enjoys camping and hiking with her husband, Dave, who specializes in couples & relationship therapy, and three border collie mix rescue dogs: Fromm, Eddie, and Bella.
